Transition Networks Expands Fiber NIC Product Portfolio with Fast Ethernet ExpressCard
Fiber Connectivity to Notebook Computers Now Available in High Security, Fiber Rich Environments.
Washington, DC - March 23, 2010 - Transition Networks Inc., the switching and media conversion technology expert, a wholly owned subsidiary of Communications Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ-GM: JCS), today announced the introduction of its new ExpressCard fiber adapter. This new fiber adapter expands Transition’s already deep offering of PCI, PCIe, and PCMCIA based fiber network interface cards and provides users with another option for network connectivity in fiber rich environments. By utilizing Transition Networks line of Fiber Network Interface Cards (NIC), users gain the benefits associated with deploying fiber optics within the LAN environment - including expanded bandwidth capacity and the increased data security associated with delivering fiber directly to the desktop.
With security concerns at an all time high, fiber optic cabling is the preferred medium in networks where data security is a top priority. The ExpressCard fiber NIC enables organizations to maintain fiber connectivity when replacing legacy PCMCIA standard notebook computers with new notebooks supporting the faster ExpressCard technology.
“As notebook technology rapidly advances, Transition Networks is keeping pace with new fiber connectivity options, such as the ExpressCard fiber NIC”, says Patrick Schaber, Director of Marketing at Transition Networks. “With the various operating systems available on new and legacy notebooks, finding a solution that bridges all of them is difficult. Our full line of Fiber Network Interface Cards (NIC) allows organizations to migrate to new technology in a controlled and protected environment without the high cost of replacing the entire network.”
Product Features and Configuration
The ExpressCard provides 100Base-FX fiber connectivity and customers can choose from units supporting either the SC or LC fiber interface, as well as units designed for either multimode or single mode fiber. A wide variety of software drivers are available for the ExpressCard to simplify installation and configuration in today’s most popular network operating systems. The Link/Activity LED on the top of the card will keep users informed of its current operating status.
