ATM Access

RAD’s ATM Network Termination Units (NTUs) are carrier-owned, customer-located multiservice demarcation devices for extending carrier management and control up to the customer premises, defining a boundary between ATM-based public services and the customer private network.

The devices allow service providers to offer LAN, ATM, voice/TDM, and Frame Relay services over ATM networks. A clear demarcation point at the customer premises ensures end-to-end QoS and traffic and network management control.

Defining and monitoring traffic management parameters from the customer’s premises offers carriers the ability to ensure that the user does not over-utilize allocated bandwidth, provides information on service performance and increases revenues from customer fees for access to performance information.

RAD’s versatile integrated access devices (IADs) enable carriers to take advantage of low-cost DSL infrastructure in the Last Mile to provide legacy leased line and Ethernet services over ATM or packet switched networks and DSLAMs.

Using pseudowire emulation, the IADs can take TDM or ATM streams and convert them into packets for transmission over the new packet-switched networks.

The devices also enable carriers and service providers to offer advanced services to small and medium-sized enterprises by converging multiple services, such as voice, LAN and data, over existing DSL networks. Enterprise customers benefit from flexible service delivery and end-to-end Quality of Service assurances.
