Cellular Backhaul

RAD’s portfolio of cell-site gateways and aggregation site gateways delivers 2G TDM, 3G ATM and Ethernet traffic over any transport network, efficiently handling real-time voice, HSPA traffic and best-effort data with cross-generation support, regardless of the underlying physical layer. Incorporating ASIC design with multi-standard TDM and ATM pseudowire support, the gateways’ enhanced OAM and QoS capabilities maintain uniform, high-performance service delivery and backward compatibility for legacy service continuity over new networks. RAD’s multiservice RAN (radio access network) gateways also feature high-performance capabilities for synchronization over packet transport to meet the “SDH/SONET or better” performance levels that are required for mobile networks.

RAD’s cell-site gateways provide multiservice support for ATM, TDM and Ethernet traffic delivery over ATM, xDSL and packet transport. Working opposite third-party switch-routers or RAD’s aggregation site gateways, they simplify service provisioning and control by simultaneously backhauling 2G GSM, 3G UMTS and HSPA traffic over shared access lines. RAD’s cell-site gateways feature a multi-standard pseudowire ASIC, supporting ATMoPSN, CESoPSN and SAToP encapsulation methods with OAM and QoS capabilities. In addition, highly accurate clock regeneration functionality is designed to meet the key requirements for cellular backhaul, such as +/- 16 ppb (parts per billion) frequency accuracy.

RAD’s aggregation site gateways provide multiservice support for ATM, TDM and Ethernet traffic delivery over ATM, SDH/SONET and packet networks. Typically located at hub sites or BSC/RNC sites, they work opposite RAD’s cell-site gateways to deliver SLA-based quality-of-service (QoS) and support transparent delivery of 2G, 3G and next-generation services. The ACE-3400, ACE-3402 and ACE-3600 ensure the most economical allocation of backhaul resources and incorporate a range of standards-based ATM and TDM pseudowire encapsulation methods, including ATMoPSN, CESoPSN and SAToP. In addition, they feature highly-accurate clock distribution capabilities to meet the key requirements for mobile backhaul, such as +/- 16 ppb (parts per billion) frequency accuracy.
