The ION Platform

Transition’s ION Platform is an all new intelligent, high-density,  multi-protocol system supporting a variety of network interface devices and media conversion modules. Designed for both carrier class and enterprise network applications where effective remote management and security are essential. The high density ION chassis is designed to operate in a central office (CO) or data center where multiple points of fiber integration is required.

General Questions

1) What is the warranty information on ION?

  • The ION Platform is covered by the same hassle-free lifetime warranty that all Transition branded equipment carries.

2) Can I buy the ION Platform directly from Transition Networks?

  • Transition Networks sells 100% through the channel. Gen-X IT is an official distributor of Transtion Networks Products.

1) What different size ION chassis are available?

2) Can a Point System converter card be used in an ION chassis?

  • A Point System card can indeed be used within an ION chassis, by employing the use of the Point System Adapter for the ION Chassis

3) Does every ION slide-in-card have an equivalent ION standalone unit?

  • No, The C2110, C2210, C3110, and C3210 cards are designed to interoperate with their Point System equivalent.

4) Does the ION chassis ship with a power supply installed?

  • All ION chassis ship with one power supply installed. Both versions of the 19 slot chassis:  have an available slot for the optional addition of a redundant power supply module.

5) How is the Dry Contact Relay module used?

  • The The ION Dry Contact Relay module (IONDCR) mounts in the lower right-hand corner of the ION Power Supply (IONPS-A)  faceplate, allowing the power supply to be tied into a separate alarm circuit. Contacts will be activated on the loss of power, enabling an external visual or audible alarm.

1) What advanced security features does the ION management module (IONMM) provide?

  • The IONMM provides the following security features: a)Management VLAN b)SSL c)SSH d)802.1x/Radius e)SNMPv1& v2 f)ACL Rules. These are meant to control access to the ION Chassis, so that only authorized personnel are able to view and change the settings to the local and remote units.

2) What versions of SNMP are supported?

  • The ION Platform currently supports SNMPv1 & v2. While SNMPv3 will be available via a future firmware upgrade.

3) What web browser is recommended when using the web interface?

  • Any web browser should accurately represent the ION management web interface. Transition has tested using Internet Explorer and Firefox.

4) Can a Point System card manage an ION standalone?

  • No - Point System cards, even the Point System management module, are unable to manage ION standalone units.

5) How are Point System cards displayed when installed in the ION chassis (using the IONADP)?

  • With the use of a Point System management module in the ION chassis, the Point System cards will appear exactly how they would in a Point System chassis. Without employing the additional Point System management module in the ION chassis, the Point System cards will appear as blank slots to the ION Management Module.

6) Can the slide-in-card configuration be backed up and restored?
